It’s so much fun to watch recycled plastics shrink to a fraction of the original size and show the bright colors of what you created. For best results fold a piece of parchment in half and stick it inside, right by the fold of the parchment paper while you bake. As mentioned above, clear #6 plastic, often used in restaurant takeout lids, are a perfect substitute for store bough shrink film.

How do you know what to size the original printed image in order to get the size you want for finished book cover? I’m new to this shrinky dink fun, ordered some sheets but can’t wait to get started! I remember some of the best times we’re making crafts with my friends and Shrinky Dinks were one of our favorite things to do. Shrinky Dinks were created in 1973. They should shrink at the same rate if you bake them shrinky dink crafts in the same batch, so just size your images similarly on the computer before printing them.

Once you’re satisfied with your designs, use a hole punch to create a hole in each piece for hanging or attaching purposes. Use permanent markers to color and decorate the plastic pieces. Make sure the plastic is clean and clear to allow for vibrant colors and designs.
Be as create as you’d like with your design — it doesn’t have to be a smiley face! For your smiley faces, circles work best. Cut the plastic into flat sheets, then into smaller shapes for your earrings. These gems, often found as clear tops on foil pans and many clamshell food containers, are perfect because they shrink just right when heated.
